I don’t know if Amazon is going to let me do this. I want to use one review for seven books. In the past two weeks, I have read seven books in the CHASE FULTON NOVELS series by Cap Daniels. The series is so tightly knit together that even when I have other books waiting on my Kindle, I have to read the “next” book in the series to keep up with the action. They are addictive. For those of you totally unfamiliar with the series, Chase is a young “troubleshooter” who works as a contractor for shadowy governmental agencies. Mostly he has been operating in the Caribbean, but he’s gone from the heat of the Panama Canal to an operation in wintery Russia that made me cold just reading about it. At present he is living on a 50’ catamaran which he homeports in St. Augustine, Florida.I’d like to tell you more, but I really don’t want to be a spoiler. I will say this: if you are a fan of the Caribbean thriller genre, you will love these books. If you are not … then what the heck is wrong with you? Too snooty?Buy these books. Read them in order. I would have given it five stars, but some people believe those ratings only come from friends, family and paid reviewers. I’m none of those.The early James Bond films can be credited with the innovative idea of opening an action movie with an action scene that has nothing to do with the rest of the movie to “get the audience’s blood pumping.” The ploy has since been used many times in many movies and action adventure novels, including this one.No, this novel does not take place in World War II and the protagonist is not a Mustang pilot.Once we get beyond the opening chapter, Chase has a conversation with someone named Jenny and they discuss people like Clark, Ginger, Skipper…or is Elizabeth?…Dominic, and Anya with little or no background on any of them. It has been a few months since I read The Unending Chase. In between, I have read a dozen books by other authors. The character's names were still vaguely familiar to me, but I could have used a couple of lines about their relationship with Chase when they got thrown at me in the space of a few paragraphs.Do I believe Ginger and Skipper could have resolved all the logistical problems as fast as they did? No, I don’t. In the real world, it would have taken several days to do some of the things they did in hours, but it’s still a good story. I don’t mind a fiction author compressing the time required to do mundane tasks so as to get on with the story. I’m reminded of “Q” coming up with all those wonderful lethal toys, just in the nick of time, for James Bond.Once again, Chase develops an action plan to accomplish some goal. Once again, his plan doesn’t work out and he has to react on the fly to accomplish his original goal. How he resolves the glitches makes the story more interesting. It seems to me it would take an author of considerable skill to write believable divergent plot lines like that.It was an interesting story about a part of the world I have never visited. I hope the author returns to the Caribbean for the next one.
